Thanks, opened as FS#4530. I understand this is not a simple matter of
changing compile options and rebuild, but HD decoding even on decent
machines take up more than one core. For example, i have a core1 1.6Ghz
dual-core older laptop where there is no real possibility to upgade for
a bigger CPU (heating issues, battery life, motherboard support for
cpu-s, cost) and that machine can play better-than-dvd quality mpg4
streams, but for even 720p one core is not enough, it is choppy when
there is a lot of movement on the screen. I checked and mplayer / xine
is a big monolithic process, VLC uses threads but only one decoder
thread.
