I have a TODO list for 1.8 that I have drafted from a lot of thinking. Any of
these
interest someone? It would be nice to not always have to do things alone.
1) Mesa 8.1.x series upgrade
2) Kernel 3.6 or 3.7 (whichever is newest by pre2)
3) libva/libvdpau/libcrystalhd moved to main, backends for most hardware
enabled,
and enabled in most software we use. This is for video decoding acceleration.
4) GRUB2 2.0 upgrade if available by pre2.
5) glibc 2.16 upgrade if available by pre2.
6) Rewrite installer to be easier to extend in the future. It should at least
support
existing features from the current installer. Possible new features would be
assisted
LVM2 setup, U/EFI, install from livecd, and/or GUI mode.
7) Extend pacman-g2 hooks to allow system caching commands to be in a single
place instead of 500+ install scriptlets in many packages via gnome-scriptlet
or fonts
schemas. Gconf and systemd will still require a schema as they require a
specific module
to be named. The caching commands do it for the entire system, and it doesn't
need to know
what packages were upgraded or removed to do it correctly.
8) Extend GRUB2 to support a "no X" mode when booting.
