If people are allowed to use aliases (i.e. nicknames), what difference does it make if someone decides not to use one and shows up as 'unknown'? I admit, it might seem a little unnerving not to have a name attached to a connection, but the nicknames really aren't worth much either. Its not like with an ftp where you can get an IP address. I don't think somebody else's use of a nickname makes your system any more secure.
Just pretend that 'unknown' is some guy who chose 'unknown' as his nickname! ;) I actually think its kinda rude just to deactivate them. Look at it from their perspective. They have no idea why they're getting deactivated, so may keep trying to access your files and end up getting frustrated and never no why. They don't think that their doing anything to warrant them getting cut off. Just my $.02. But just to reiterate, I understand where you're comin from, I just don't agree with it under Furthur's set of rules. mb mb >From: JAMES R DAVIES <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: [Furthur] unknown users >Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 07:03:28 -0500 > >Hi everyone, >I don't know if there is a rule or "understanding" about "unknown" users >downloading from furthur.
