Subject: RE: index.cfm size

My opinion, the biggest issue with large files of any kind is reading the
code. And on that point a file of only 5 lines with bad code can be far
less efficient than one of 1,000 lines with good code.

What we try to do is break up all our Circuits-Fuses in relativity to the
application architecture which in turn typically keeps the index.cfm or
Fbx_switch files on the compact side. However, we did see an FB 2.0
application with an index.cfm file over 1,500 lines long and the application
ran very efficiently.

As I said just my opinions.

Would a 1000 line index.cfm file affect performance? Is this too big? What
are the practical limits?

Who has the biggest index file and have you noticed any performance hits?

Or, one can order the book at www.techspedition.com using "offline ordering"
and then pay by PayPal. Several Canadian customers have done just this and
had their books shipped out to them already.

We suggest buying the "Discovering Fusebox" book on Amazon.com for
buyers outside the US.

I havent read all the email content... Was thinking it was about the new
hal book (Discov...).

Anyway... I ordered both of htme ;-)
I had to cancel my order of "discovering..." because I'm not in the US
and I'm still waiting the other because of amazon.ca. Not my month.

Not by that much. I have a 7.5K (and also greater) line index.cfm file
and I havent noticed much degredation in performance.

Your best bet is to make sure you are using some CF best practice for
speed improvements like.

1. Don't use evaluate()

2. Don't use iif()

3. Don't use structFind()

4. Don't use incrementValue()

5. Don't use WDDX for hardcoded data

6. Use cfscript wherever you can get away with it

Would a 1000 line index.cfm file affect performance? Is this too big?
What
are the practical limits?

Who has the biggest index file and have you noticed any performance
hits?

What alternatives are there to the evaluate statement? I use it ALOT!

If you guys talk the book up to your friends and we make it to No. 5 on *Amazon*,

Seriously, though, keep talking up the books--it's one of the ways we raise
everybody's value by
making Fusebox more widely recognized. I'm buying copies for all my clients, just so
they know
what's going on. One of them got two chapters into our book and said, "Hey! This
client
character you have in here sounds awfully familiar..." :)
