We just did a webinar demo of XMPIE. This application does this very thing with layers in InDesign which are called from data file. It is a nice feature, but my clients have not requested this type of output yet. I think that this would benefit my clients in the future. Like anything else with technology, as soon as clients are exposed to this, they will want it. Just my 2 cents worth.
