It´s a constant in history: it is innocent people who pays the costs of war.
And everything else in "history"....
I again recomend Elsa Morante's novel _History: A Novel_, which captures the suffering of little people in war very well.
There is no word in the human language to describe the suffering of the guinea pigs who do not know the reason for their death.
And history continues....
