I get the same behavior.  Clicking on the transparent portion of a png
or xpm icon image still clicks through to the root window.

FVWM version 2.5.2 compiled on Solaris 8 with support for: XPM, PNG,
GNOME WM hints, EWMH hints, Shape, SM
