Sounds like a name lookup problem from the timeout length. What is your
name resolution sequence? Make sure NetBIOS name resolution to the
partner is fast on the DMZ server *AND* the machine inside. Make sure
you don't get fooled by DNS resolution when testing this.

Btw: mapping CIFS/SMB through a firewall into a DMZ simply is calling
for trouble - especially when talking about the internet DMZ. The
protocol does not have exactly a reputation for being the most
secure/robust one...
