Hi listers,

Wanted to share the following issue and its solution with you.

Environment: Distributed and Management running on Windows 2000 with
                Check Point NG FP3 HFA320

Yesterday one of our customers call in telling me he couldn't save
its Security Policy anymore on his Management Server ... The error message
 being :

"The changes could not be saved. Please make sure that all Firewall-1
services are up and running. For more information, use the smartview status
 application"

Looking at the SmartView Status didn't reveal anything abnormal.

In the EventViewer on that system we found following entry :

        The description for Event ID ( 2 ) in Source ( FireWall-1 ) cannot
be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information
or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following
information is part of the event: Logging in >>>>

I checked in the Knowledge base from CheckPoint and found only one related
article but versus NG AI R54, telling this was solve with HFA-407 ... But no
mention for NG FP3 nor in the Release Notes of HFA323.

Customer had a 2d issue on that server, he couldn't map his C$ drive anymore
 from another system ....

I suggested to upgrade_import an old config that was OK the day before, as
he was in the middle of a Mgmt Server migration, he used this problem to migrate.

At the end when the new server was up, he looked again at the issue, and guess
what the solution was??? Run the defragmenter on that system !!!

Met vriendelijke groeten - Bien vous - Kind regards
