I must say that i disagree with you here. Lets assume that you're using a machine for 
a few years and you get a hardware problem. You will normally have no problems 
replacing this failed hardware with the exact same hardware after contacting compaq, 
while the generic intel component providers only have got hardware for only a few 
generations back. I have had issues with scsi controllers, scsi disks nics etc from 
generic intel boxes and it's not always possible to find an equal replacement for the 
failed component.

        Same thing here.  The one thing about running compaqs in production, or any
        proprietary hardware solution, is that its not easy to
        swap parts out in a failure like with a generic INTEL box.
