The first time I tried to take an XU from 4.5.39 (factory) to 4.5.44 it gave
the same message. The second time it worked. I have done it from across the
VPN in the past but this time I did it from a local laptop on the Edge's
internal network.

I don't think you can get the firmware from Sofaware. An FAQ said it has to
come from Check Point.

Subject: [FW-1] Edge X firmware upgrade
Date: Thu, 9 Sep 2004 07:13:57 +0100

I have been trying to upgrade firmware on an Edge X which I downloaded from
the Checkpoint site.
When I tried the latest 4.0.X version I get a message indicating that it is
the wrong firmware. When
I try the 4.5.X I get either you do not have permission or the wrong
firmware.

I have tried upgrading the firmware remotely connecting to its public IP
and also to the private IP
via a VPN connection. Will the Edge X only accept firmware upgrades from an
IP address that exists
on its local net? This is the only option I have not tried yet.

Can any one confirm that the Edge X firmware upgrades do work in an Edge X
unit, or do I need to
download from Sofaware?
