hi, the ressource is in the service-tab, not in the destination-tab.

The mail servers is just Static-ly NATed to an external IP Address.

Even when the device is offline on the other side, when connecting to
port 25 the telnet connection is still answered - the firewall has to be
doing this.

what answer do you get on port 25? does it say "220 fw1 ..."?

This stops (external mail servers from a mail filtering provider running
Qmail) moving onto other MX records and wrecks our redundancy with two
mail servers.

What would be causing this ? And can it be disabled ?

just don't use a smtp-ressource (smtp->ressourcename) in your policy

why? normally emails are spooled in $FWDIR/spool (default-path) and when
your mailer is up again they are delivered ...
