hi,
first of all you have to keep in mind, that this is not the main-feature of the firewall. the firewall can do those things but it's purpose is to catch bad packets or connections ...
further more it takes really a lot of CPU power if you want to be your fw1 a mail-relay. but there are wonderful CVP gateways out there (for example contentwall, see www.opsec.com for more).
what about an smtp-AV-gateway? aladdin has a very good smtp-gateway solution. then you have a dedicated machine for that ...
cheers reinhard

Hi,
Because my email server is under a lot of pressure, i'm thinking of moving some tasks to the firewall, like the scanning of mime-types so it deletes files with double extensions, and or sending emails to a virus-server before sending them further. All these features are into the firewall module but is this a good idea (not much overhead), I'm quite new with checkpoint so can you people say what you think about this idea.
