Have you tried looking at the syslogs? Also, R55 has a lock file as well,
try searching for it. What OS is your management on?

l did a "find / -name cpadmin" with no result. A
look in $FWDIR/bin confirmed it.
l tried the other method of killing the
cp_http_server and cpwmd commands without luck either.
Upon further testing, it doesn't matter what user
ID or password l enter, l always get the same
"Logout: Already connected" message.
Help!
