Yes but having them (IP2250), I cannot recommend them to anyone ...

This indeed sounds like a job for some FWSM's but this will only work with a static policy.

The other option is to go for HW loadbalancers and a bunch of IP560's behind.

If you need 10 gigE uplink then radware's AS3 or F5's 8400 might be something you need.

Or you might think to split services off behind multiple clusters as we did which in the end ensures that all your eggs are not in one basket and makes the equipment cheaper.
