We installed SPLAT on a Dell PE2850 with 2 Intel Quads in the top two PCI-X slots and it crashed every time we ran traffic through any interface on the middle quad... After much troubleshooting, we moved the middle quad to the bottom slot and it resolved the issue. The middle and top slots must share resources. OTH, our preferred platform are HP ML370s where you can put 3 quads without issue...

Well. 4x2x1 Gb/s is beyond the capabilities of any PCI bus. So you may run into trouble there. I think that is why they are reluctant to sign of on quad Gb/s interfaces.
