Trying to make the story short... Power is the new name for the former Pro and now includes things like multi processor hardware (that used to require Secure XL extra licensing), on the other hand UTM is the new name for Express CI, which in fact includes A/V. Power includes floodgate as well as other features, UTM does support floodgate, but it must be purchased as an add on. For details on what is included and what not, just check the general price list at:
http://pricelist.checkpoint.com/US/sections/main.asp Little icons help you with the features of each. Besides that, there are still UTM licenses for 50, 100, 250 and 500 users as it used to happen with Express, but now they released UTM unlimited licenses which allow you to buy something unlimited for cheaper instead of going for Power, which includes a bunch of extra stuff UTM does not. If you want a Power version plus A/V, there is then there is "VPN-1 UTM Power" license, which as you might imagine, gives you exactly that. Finally, Check Point just released a new appliance named UTM-1, which is basically a UTM unlimited license running over a modified SPLAT, based on R62, that comes on Check Point hardware from factory and is intended for small and medium businesses. Hope all this helps clearing things off for you. On 2/22/07, Dave Allen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Hi, I may be wrong but I was of the opinion that UTM is a hardware appliance with the Checkpoint applications pre-installed where as VPN-1 power is the Checkpoint applications available for use on all hardware platforms with the exception of Nokia IPSO. Hi, I know what the VPN-1 Power license is and that's what we've been using over the years (it used to be called differently back then). Then they introduced VPN-1 Express, which was essentially a stripped down VPN-1 Pro with a maximum user limit of 500. Now they introduced the UTM thing and the user limit seems to have disappeared (so it officially supports unlimited users). It also has extra features like AntiVirus that I can not get on the way more expensive Power license. I can tell that UTM does not have SecureXL and Floodgate support, but other than that I can't see any differences. So why on earth would I buy Power instead of UTM? Are there more differences than the two I mentioned? I am strongly considering a "downgrade" to get the benefits of lower cost. To make a long story short: What's the differnce between Power and UTM other than Floodgate and and SecureXL support? Am I missing something?
