One extra thing I forgot to mention in my previous post:

NGX R60 and above is based on Red Hat Linux ES 3.0.
NG R55, R54... are based on the older Red Hat 7.3.

This should help in choosing with rpms *might* work on SPLAT in case you're 
adventurous :-)

The commands are mostly, but not entirely, consistent with
corresponding RedHat Linux 7 (I think it was 7) commands.  For
example, ifconfig has been extended with the --save option, since
you're prevented from editing any rc-files directly unless you go to a
proper bash shell.

For R55, there is documentation of the SPLAT CLI commands, but it's
really more of a set of vague hints as to where you should look for
real documentation.  I mean, if you're used to Linux man pages, it's
just sad...
