There's actually good CLI documentation for each SPLAT version. It can be reached by browsing to www.checkpoint.com -> Downloads -> Product Documentation. For example, for NGX R62 the following CLI guides are available. R62 SecurePlatform & SecurePlatform Pro User Guide R62 SecurePlatform Pro & Advanced Routing Suite Command Line Interface Guide R62 Command Line Interface Guide
SPLAT is basically a hardened and stripped down version of Red Hat Linux... so most of the *basic* / essential commands that work on linux should work on SPLAT (ls, cp, pwd, ifconfig etc'). However it's a good idea to know useful SPLAT specific commands such as: snapshot. The snapshot command makes a complete backup (OS and Check Point packages) in the directory /var/CPsnapshot/snapshots. Whenever you want to revert back to a previous snapshot just run the command: revert. You may even transfer the snapshot from one machine and revert it to another to create a lab or testing environment. Unfortunately the hardware on both machines needs to be identical for this to work... there's no hardware independant snapshot command (yet..). Hope this helps. For example, ifconfig has been extended with the --save option, since you're prevented from editing any rc-files directly unless you go to a proper bash shell. For R55, there is documentation of the SPLAT CLI commands, but it's really more of a set of vague hints as to where you should look for real documentation. I mean, if you're used to Linux man pages, it's just sad...
