This step is fairly similar to what VMware have done with great success. There
are however some important differences (even though both VMware and CheckPoint
have chosen Jive forum software).

1. VMware had news groups that were fairly active, quite similar to what this
mailing list used to be a few years ago.
2. They started their web based forums about 4 years ago, but left the news
groups active.
3. After they announced the Forum Rewards program
(http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=7591&start=0&tstart=0)
back in 10/2004, more and more users moving from the news groups to the web based
forums. A year later the news groups were almost dead
(http://www.virtualization.info/2005/09/vmware-newsgroups-almost-dead.html)
4. In may 2006 the news groups were silently shut down as they were almost dead
(http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=403660)

This voluntary move of users had great success and /me too have received a VMware T-shirt for postings in their forums.

I higly dooubt checkpoint will give stuff for free for switching over to the forum.
