R55P is the version supported (by nokia) under limited availability to
help you migrate to NGX

I never really understood the whole "P" thing. I remember that when it came out Check Point disavowed any support for it. It was like Nokia developed it on their own. After some customer howling they started devloping HFAs for it, but it's always been behind the power curve of R55.

The P version is there for a very simple reason.

With the introduction of IPSO 3.8 the IP clustering was rewritten and was not compatible with Check Point anymore. To support this change they released a special R55 build which is now known as R55P.

So from IPSO 3.8 onwards the normal R55 release will not communicate correctly with IPSO regarding ClusterXL issues and will therefor result in problems on these versions.

It will not affect single gateway users but CLustering solutions will be hampered if you use the wrong version.
