For IPSO devices a useful command is:
# ipsctl -a | grep linktransitions
This will tell you how many times the link has bounced on each port.
One of our more flaky IP650's shows this:
ifphys:eth-s2p1:stats:linktransitions = 23
ifphys:eth-s2p2:stats:linktransitions = 245 <<< not good
ifphys:eth-s2p3:stats:linktransitions = 13
ifphys:eth-s2p4:stats:linktransitions = 5
This is our most typical failure on IP650's, the quad nics start
generating link transitions, getting progressively worse until the card
must be replaced.
