well.. it's only 10-20 users behind it. Checkpoint claims 150 mbps of clear and 30 mbps of vpn throughput and 8000 concurrent connections on them on website. I wouldn't have decided for edges if i would be even close to those limits (i'm not over 10%). I have problems also on locations where i have SDSL with 1-4 mpbs (not that big but still significant performance degradation).

Duh. 10Mb/s internet link, FW-1 code, VPN-1 Edge. Pardon me but that sounds to me you are trying to push it. In my experience anything over a simple DSL link is too much for a VPN-1 Edge.
