I'm going to be moving from a Win2k based system to a Splat based platform. Some of the things I'm testing to make sure I can still do are:
1. Snmp of the interfaces to know the load of the network. 2. Snmp of the processor, load and committed memory (in use). 3. Some way to monitor that the spool used by SMTP is filling up or not. I've found the antivirus (on a different box) sometimes gets hung and stops getting mail from the firewall for processing. Spotting that the spool directory is accumulating files is the easiest way to detect the problem. 4. Splat likely doesn't support BigBrother for some of this, gee that would be nice. The first one or two, I quite sure work, but interested if there are any gotcha to look out. The 3rd and 4th are things that would make me much more comfortable with the conversion. While I trust Splat way farther than Win2k, Win2003 or whatever, at least I have a wealth of monitoring options. -ken cameron, CCP.
