Does anyone have any experience with running SmartCenter on SecurePlatform
in a VMWare (ESX) environment? Clearly, the firewall module is running on
dedicated hardware... but it seems like the SmartCenter server would be a
good candidate for a VMWare server, in an environment that already has
VMWare deployed.

It sure does... That way you don't have "all your eggs in the same basket".
If the machine where your firewall resides dies, you still have all your
rules on the SmartCenter machine, so getting back on line just requires for
you to get a backup machine, install SecurePlatform, re-establish SIC and
push the policies down.
