Be carefull with VMWare tools.
ESX needs to install VMWare tools and SPLAT doesn't permit install them.
I had problems this week, and I decide to install the SmartCenter on RHEL.

Check Point support is not clear on the issue wether or not it is
supported. What their reason is to hold back is not clear to me.

The advantage: A VM makes a much simpeler virtual appliance. (SPLAT
install makes your hardware pretty much a virtual appliance.) The hardware
options are limited compared to the wide range of hardware out there.

The disadvantage: Timing is not garantueed at the level one needs to use
logs as proof.

Timing is important but the deviation on VM's is not enough to be a
problem for Check Point. I have seen deviation of several minutes in a
densly packed VPN environment without problems. So the odd second of a VM
will not ppose a problem.

In my view: It sounds great and it works great as well.

Hugo.
