Hi,

I just got a quick, and probably stupid, question. :)

I'm currently upgrading all our firewall to R65 and I noticed that in WebUI >
Network > Connections interfaces that are not configured has status down.

In R61/R62, which we use now, I see that all interfaces got status up
regardless of configuration or even if they are connected.

Is this something new in R65?

Reason for my asking is that I configured a vlan interface on eth2.100 and it
wouldn't come up. Status was still down even though I know for a fact that its
connected.

So what I had to do was to configure a "dummy" ip-address on eth2 directly and
then it came up. Then later I deleted that ip-address again on eth2 and it
still works with only ip on eth2.100.

So it seems to me that you need to configure an ip-address on the physical
interface before it gets enabled.

So is this correct?

It's not like that on R61/R62.

I have not tried rebooting this firewall after I deleted the ip again on eth2
so I don't know if the interface will be down again then. I'll try that
tomorrow.

Regards,

Torkel

Hi, Torkel

I can't speak on behalf of the webui as I rarely use it (I only use
sysconfig/cli), but if I add a VLAN to a nic and that nic doesn't have any
IPs/VLANs, I'll see a brief message saying its enabling the card before it adds
the VLAN. So unless CP intentionally made the webui different, I reckon its
supposed to automatically enable the nic for you and set it to up.

André S.
