This works fine as long as you have compatible firmware and CheckPoint revisions. Sonicwall has an entire PDF on which versions of their firmware are compatible with which versions of CheckPoint for different encryption schemes.
I do not have a specific link available but you should be able to search on Sonicwall's web site for the information.
