When you try to connect to an internal server, from another internal
system, via the external address, the server sees the packet originating
from the internal systems IP address and responds directly to that
address. The internal system, however, was talking to the external address
as far as it knew and has no idea why this internal server is responding.

You need to do source and destination NAT to get this to work. See
