Hi Ramesh:

(regarding going with 2 lines to 1 ISP that Don@Blacksun posted)

>>I totally agree with this solution: Instead of going to two different ISP, I
would say going through a Larger ISP with two different POP locations, will
give pretty much good redundancy and BGP will be much much cheaper for you
to use. You can do lot of things like secure redundancy, spliting the
traffic or diverting in incoming and out going traffic, VPN traffic ...etc.
This solution, Iam in a process of implementing using UUNET two different
POP locations with BGP next week. I have taken this decission, after going
through lot of research.<<

One thing though, WCOM is in bad financial shape. They could be in chap 11 in the
next 18-24 months. (look at their debt load!) That will not help UUnet..
I've been through 2 bankrupt providers (Northpoint in NYC) and PSInet.
It's not fun and it's a great reason to deal with the headache of 2 carriers. I should
talk,
at the time I took my current position my 2 carriers were Northpoint & PSI! ;-)

There are some *very* sound technical & budgetary reasons to go with one
provider, but in the current climate I think it is well to consider financial health
as well. Your carriers balance sheet could be your new SPF. Even in good times
it takes 45-60 days to provision a new circuit so change is not easy or quick..

Just free advice, and worth every cent. ;-)

- Joe
