I suspect you are using windows hyperterminal ?

If so DONT it sends control characters i.e. TAB which sends the IP330 into
BIOS mode. Disconnect your console turn on the IP330, wait for about 5 mins
and then reconnect your terminal, all should be OK. Whatever you do dont
change the BIOS settings or its generally a return to factory job, I have
been there !!

or use a different emulator, I always just use a standard green screen
VT220.
