Greg,
To start off with I am a Sales Rep. for EBIZ a Check Point certified
Appliance provider.
Please pardon me if you feel my entry into this thread is not appropriate.
To answer your question,
With Secure Platform, Check Point released both the OS and the Firewall
Suite as its own bundled product.
That is, Check Point owns full support for the Secure Platform Hardened
Kernel both OS and FW Suite.
So, If you have issues in the field with Your platform troubleshooting is
done like this:
1. Does Unit Boot to the OS (Any Boot Disk with Kernel)
NO - Its the Hardware call the Vendor.
YES - Its the Software (OS or Firewall) call Check Point
I clipped the below paragraph taken from a previous posting that I had made
regarding the the PRO/CON's of Secure Platform.
Secure Platform
Pro -
Fast, Our System the EBIZ TCP23 can get 3+ Gig throughputs
Cost effective, Secure Platform opens the door for realistic server
based pricing.
(That is a XEON system should cost on the order of $5k base.)
(Look at
http://www.checkpoint.com/products/choice/platforms/ebiz_tcp23.html)
Check Point owns the OS so trouble with support call issues go away.
(That is no wondering if it is the CP product or the Platform OS, all
software Check Point)
(Have been told by Check Point that features like routing are being
added to future revs.)
Like moving from NT to Red Hat the Check Point licenses transfer without
added cost.
Cons -
Some what new in the field. Must ask you, how new are the latest from
MS, Red Hat, Sun?
Secure Platform is reduced to minimum so some drivers and packages are
not there.
(In creating a strong Intel based appliance, EBIZ provided CP divers
that are now in SPFP3)
The only caution I would suggest to you is that Secure Platform uses a
Hardened OS so drivers are limited.
Thus finding compatible Interfaces is somewhat a chore. EBIZ uses this
fact as the value add of our Terian Check Point Appliance line.
That is we worked with Check Point to deliver cutting edge hardware that
runs Secure Platform without issue.
Take a look at the EBIZ systems @ http://www.ebizenterprises.com/tcp. You
will quickly see value in using Secure Platform.

I am considering upgrading to running NG on top of SecurePlatform an Intel
hardware to get the best value for the highest throughput, but my major
concern is the support I can expect from Checkpoint when issues between
their secured version of RedHat is not behaving properly with NG.
What are some of your experiences with Checkpoint's support of the unlying
O/S?
I certainly don't want to get a response from their tech-support of, "gosh,
that's an O/S issue and we can't help you with that."
