"Step back from the firewall people, there is nothing to see...... haven't
you got homes to go to"
(sorry watch too many cop shows)

My spin on this as you are talking about security *not*
stability/performance/cluster etc.....

We are talking here about a Firewall not a "pure 100%" NT box. (or a "pure
100%" UNIX box)
FW1 wraps it'self over the top of NT - period.
So all the holes that are there (or not) are covered up, so who cares?

So in answer to your question, I have yet to see a post here that says "hey
guys/gals there is a security probem with FW1 on NT you need this patch"

What I am talking here about is a "pure" FW1 box, just running fw1 and its
security servers, hardened as per suggestions from lance, phoneboy and
others. Once you decide you want to put your mailserver/webserver/DNS and
other apps, then you are open to *their* weaknesses *not* specifically the
OS weakness.

Feel free to correct me here anyone, I just felt like making a blanket
statement.

Subject: [FW1] Evidence of NT security problems?

Hello all,

We have NT firewalls and expertise here and the general opinion is to
stick with that as it the the OS we have most knowledge in.

However, we have been advised that NT is 'full of holes' and UNIX is the
most secure OS and we do have some knowledge of UNIX.

I'm aware that there are performance advantages of running FW-1 on UNIX,
but that aside, I was wondering if anyone has, or could point me to, any
evidence of running FW-1 on NT as being a serious security problem.

Thanks,

Matt Little
