this whole thread sounds like a taste of dealing with checkpoint as a whole.
you'd think for as much as the product costs and as snotty as the people
from their largest resellers are (i.e. ISS), they would actually have some
good solutions.
try to download and install an eval on a weekend, can't get the cert key...
try to get a support contract... they are ALL vague and nonsensical...
try to get descent CCSE books...
try to make some logic of why 'some folks can and some folks can't' with
regards to PPTP, etc...
it's ridiculous but it seems the way of the 'canned app'. buy an oracle
database with a canned package and the vendor charges you 100k for the
privilege of using their buggy software and then charges you to be a lab rat
for their patches. a hole is found in a microsoft app and it's renamed from
'bug' to 'feature', until the next SP comes out when the 'feature' magically
vanishes.
what can you do though?
as far as checkpoint CCSA/CCSE training goes (to add another certification,
I guess), I thought about it but found the ISC2 (www.isc2.org) organization
to much more compelling as it covers a 'common body of knowledge' that can
be applied anywhere vs. what checkpoint wants you to know about their
products...
sorry to vent/bash. been a long week....
