I agree with Jeff.

I have been a Unix geek for so long I grep in my sleep. However, it took me
a solid year to be completely comfortable with Unix and I learn new things
all the time. I have never used a Nokia box but training is a definate MUST
before you tackle a Unix box. I would suggest some basic Unix training
first, then the Sun SA courses. The Sun networking course will be
invaluable to you also because as Jeff said, all the networking stuff is
from the command line and is done manually.

ifconfig forever!!

Well, first and foremost - you won't have Voyager to use anymore for
configuration. You'll have to do all routing and related configuration from
the Solaris POV and that's totally diff from Nokia's IPSO.

Managing rules via the FW-1 GUI will be identical.

You need to know how to add/change/delete routes under Solaris, how to do
network stuff (ifconfig, /etc/netmasks, /etshostname.<interface name>, etc.

Other than that, not a lot of difference. Also, unlike the Nokia's only
basic routing protocols are supported under Solaris - if you need anything
exotoc (OSPF for example), you'll have to d/l, compile and install these all
manually.

I'd recommend a Sun Solaris SA coure of you are not familiar with Solaris
OS.

Hello everyone.
Due to management decision, we have to migrate to Solaris version of the
Checkpoint FW-1 4.1.
Currently, I am managing a Nokia 330. It's there anything different that I
should know about
configuring and installing the Solaris version?

Thank You
