Subject: RE: [FW1] Internet usage policyHi Michel, I created ours based on one I found at the Websense site. We had our lawyers go over them and the documents did not require much change.

Title: RE: [FW1] Internet usage policy
this
topic should probably be moved to a different list, but its somewhat pertinent
to us all, and is certainly near and dear to my heart, since everything I do is
supposed to revolve around these elusive documents that hardly anyone seems to
have or care about, and in most cases when they are in place,
noone follows them, or can tell you the ground rules (Los
Alamos)
;->
If you
are going to be required to continually develop policies, and youre not sure
what to do, I would highly recommend http://www.baselinesoft.com The book is
quite comprehensive, and will give you a good start. Ultimately I would enlilst
the help of someone that has done this before, many times. I took a look at he
IAUP that was referenced from the Websense site. Although it is an ok start, the
reason this clears legal so easily is that it is simple. IMHO you need a little
more protection than that document offers. In many cases, if you policies are
not thorough, you are better off not having one at all. I have seen some massive
payouts to people who were "fired" for violating internet access (surfing porn)
one in particular was due to wording along the lines of "during business
hours.
