One may order a VPN-1 platform based on the IP330 with an integrated dial-in
modem that enables one to manage the platform from the command-line.

Routes must be defined using the Network Voyager interface.
If you have dialed in and are on the command line, this can be accessed
using the Lynx
text browser. The reason you need to do this is because only configurations
made through
Network Voyager are checked for errors and retained through reboots.

The Backup and Restore configuration page allows for you to create a backup
on
the IPSO filesystem and then retrieve it to your local workstation. These
backup files
contain all that is necessary to enable you to recreate your current
configuration on
another platform that is identical to the first platform. By this, I mean
that you would have
the same network interface cards in the same slots.

With such a file, you can completely reinstall the operating system,
packages and configuration
in under 30 mins. I have tested this numerous times and consistently find
that the system reboots
into the exact same state that existed at the time the backup was created.

If you create the backup file using Lynx from the command line, you will not
be able
to conveniently offload it to your local workstation. Only an HTTP
connnection to Network Voyager
will offer you that feature. Also, the modem can be configured for
dial-back.
