Hello Luis,

That's just binary calculation.
11111000 binary = 248 decimal

00000000 = 0
00000001 = 1
00000010 = 2
00000011 = 3
00000100 = 4
00000101 = 5  (this is not the same "5" as the "5" in 224.0.0.0/5, "101" is
the number "5", in the other case, you specify "5 subnet bits", that's
"1111100", so 248., when you should specify 15 subnet-bits, you woukd have
"11111111 11111110 00000000 00000000", = 255.254.0.0)

00000110 = 6
00000111 = 7
00001000 = 8
...

Hope this is helpfull,
regards,
Tom

Yes, but why 248? wich is the operation that give you as result 248?

You describe 5 subnet-bits...
means 11111000 00000000 0000000 00000000 = 248.0.0.0

So you've got 224.0.0.0 mask 248.0.0.0

If I'm not mistaken , you define it as 224.0.0.0 mask 224.0.0.0
someone please validate this.

Subject: [FW1] How describe a network

Hi...

Can I create an network object with the following format: 240.0.0.0/5
instead of giving the IP and the netmask? I need do this because I dont know
how put this example (class e reservered net) with ip and mask. Thanks a
lot.

And, if I want to put a rule to an specified interface of the machine... how
can I do that?
Thanks again.
