Ditto. My favorite doc for performance and security tuning is at
http://www.noblesouth.com/downloads/FirewallPerfNT.pdf. It covers which
services to remove, which services and devices to disable, and a slew of
registry modifications to tune NT and FW1 to play nicely together.

Subject: Re: [FW1] NT memory management
Derek,
By disabling the server service(control panel->services), you're
making your system much more secure. This goes for server as
well as MS workstation. This does not control the memory
of the system(oother than gaining some back). It's for
file/print sharing and browsability. There are other
services/devices that should be shutdown in addition. Make
sure you go through the network properties and nuke all
uneeded services/protocols and bindings too. Obviously
you want to research what is running and have a minimum of 2
good backups along with some ERD before venturing down
that road.
I have shutdown _many_ unneded services et'al and have been
pleased with the performance and stability of NT & FW1 therafter.
See www.enteract.com/~lspitz or www.trustedsystems.com
for more info.
Best of Luck!
Robert
