To add to that, make sure your outoing SMTP rule is near the top of the rulebase to maximize performance.

So this is outgoing, rather than incoming via the SMTP security server ?
Can you increase the timeout on your mail server ?
Mail from your mail server will just be routed straight out to the Internet, so I expect this is more down to firewall load or even your border router's load.

There seems to be a maximum to the number of email connections the
firewall can handle simultaneously .
If our internal mail server sends to much emails he gets a reset condition on opening
the smtp connection to our firewall .
 
Does anyone know how I can increment that maximum , or how I can see what
the maximum is ?
