I understand your concerns, I was under the same impression 
(especially since I failed to *read* the original rules and didn't 
know we could not talk about the solution sets as a whole), but the 
powers that be (the other golfers themselves that is) stated that 
asking for help so long NO solutions were posted is OK...

Individual questions could be asked and answered in a general 
fashion and yes, my question *could* be misconstrued to be a golf 
question and it does somewhat appear that during golfing events 
this list becomes ghostly quite, but Andrew accepted one of 
solutions _ I submitted a bug report and during the conversation he 
clarified that I was still able to submit the solution I had 
thought was a bug (apparently a Perl 5.6.0 MacOS X issue.)

However, the complete code I posted a few days ago was a no-no, and 
worst yet it was invalid code at that :(

What may burn a few butts is that what I entered is 79 strokes on 
even.pl - but rest assured, it drive me quite insane in getting it 
down from 350+ strokes.
