TPC 3 was The Perl Conference 3.0. (This year's conference was TPC 6.0.) One of the events at TPC 3 was a sort of competitive programming challenge called the Perl Death Bowl. Two programmers, going head-to-head in front of the audience, had a limited amount of time to write a certain program. There were some technical glitches, but it went off fairly well.
