Bryan, Try setting up a minimal set of extensions and see if you can find a configuration that lets you print. Use that extension set only when you want to run your software.
Can you boot off an older OS CD and still see your HD? If that works, you can do so on occasions when you need to run that software. That might work. You may alternately burn a bootable CD that contains the programs you want, if your HD disappears when you boot to the earlier OS. It's also possible to do a clean install of an older OS and boot out of the older OS folder as needed. Just hide the Finder in the System folder you DON'T want to run by dragging in into a sub-folder to "de-favor" that System folder. Then drag the Finder from the other OS folder back out of it's hiding place into the System folder. REMEMBER not to shut down unless one of the two folders is "favored" by having a Finder properly located, or you'll have to boot off CD to fix the problem. Note, Apple recommends against having multiple OS folders on one hard drive partition, but I've done it successfully a number of times. Maybe one of the gurus can comment in more detail as needed.
