To add to Brian's excellent post I add this: If you get a Powerbook and like the freedom it gives, be prepared to have a very difficult time going back to only a desktop. It's addicting.
Be prepared for the most part to have a slower machine than a desktop AND to pay more for it. Be prepared to have less upgrades available and to have less disk storage onboard. Get insurance like safeware.com - it's worth it $50/year for $2000 coverage. Get used to envious people eyeing your powerbook just because it's awesome.
