I bought a VST expansionZIP secondhand about a month ago for use in our
Kanga, so I do not have much experience with it yet, but I've used an
external ZIP (100MB) since my days with my LC, through Performa 630, PPC
7100, PPC 8200 and now PPC 8600 (internal) without any problems, for
file-transfer and back-up purposes.
In my opinion and experience the ZIP is a thrustworthy medium.
