I play DVD's on my TV with the res set to 1152x768 all the time, without 
a problem. If it were truly a bug, I wouldn't be able to do that....

Originally, DVD Player 3.0 in OS X couldn't run if more than one display 
is connected; say, the built in display on the PowerBook, plus the TV. 
The only way to play a DVD through to a TV on a PowerBook was to boot 
the Powerbook with the clamshell closed. Leaving it open and, thus, 
having the internal display on, would render the "configuration not 
supported" error.

One of the 10.1 updates resolved this. I think it was 10.1.3.
