Sometimes it's quality. Usually it has to do with a couple of factors. 1. Volume of seller(ie if they sell a lot, the price can be cheaper) 2. Warranty offered(lifetime vs 1 year vs 90 days) 3. Reseller vs Manufacturer. (ie, sells somebody elses product vs putting chips onto board themselves) 4. Quality of chips
Another factor is whether the seller takes advantage of the fact that a lot of RAM that Apple uses these days is the same as PC ram. Hence higher volume and lower cost. If you, the buyer, doesn't realize this, the seller can charge you more. Personally, I stick with a seller that can handle problems as well as a cheap price. I have been using Other World Computing for my memory purchases for the last few years. Usually within a few dollars on the low end, but never a hassle if there is a problem. Excellent Customer service. And, cheap shipping. They use Airborne and for just a couple of sticks of ram, you can usually get it the next day for $5. http://eshop.macsales.com/AddToBasket_Specials.cfm?ID=4492&Item=OWC133SO5123 28 Here is the link for their PC133 512meg SODIMM for your Pismo. $91.50.
