You're going to like the Wallstreet 300. It runs Jaguar acceptably IMHO. First thing you should do is lose the 8 gb factory drive. It is a loser. You can't rip MP3s with it due to a longstanding and never fixed bug. New 40 gb IBM drives are around $165 these days. I've got a 300 mhz Wallstreet and I've been running OS X since the public beta was released. I have a 20 gig Hitachi drive partitioned into 5 parts with OS X on the first. It's 2.55 gigs in size and I have 423 mb free. I easily installed Jaguar with no troubles whatsoever. Mind you, the next time I partition, I'm giving X a lot more space. At least 4 gb. But for now, all is fine.
I've got 9.2.2 on the second part and it's 1.5 gigs in size, with 790 mbs free. You are right about 9.1, never had sleep of death with it. Never have sleep of death with OS X ever, and I had it constantly with 9.2x. But with Jaguar, who cares. The key to a lean OS X install is to not install all of the localization (foreign lang.) packages and irrelevant printer drivers. That was the difference between installing Jaguar for me, and having to format the drive and start over from scratch. The reason I can have a relatively small X partition is because I keep all of my applications and data files (Word proc/sprd sheet, email, digital photos, mp3, DV etc) on the other 3 partitions. > >On Sunday, September 8, 2002, at 01:28 PM, David Pekarsky wrote: > >> I am buying a powerbook wallstreet 300mhz, 8/192, and want to >> partition the >> hard drive so that I can run OS 9.1, some version of X, and an >> emergency >> boot version of 9.1.
