Chris, The reason for this is that your Wallstreet probably has a large amount of RAM, and the time is due to the machine testing the RAM before starting up. If you want a fast startup, pull all but 32mb of RAM out of your machine--it'll start up much faster! ; )
Unfortunately, there is no charging indicator on the Wallstreet either. The battery will begin showing lights a few seconds after it begins charging--that is your indicator. However, if the machine is on, there will be an indicator in the top menu bar (over to the right of the clock), showing AC charging, battery dead, etc..... An easy way to know if your machine is charging is to listen when you plug your AC unit into the wall--it'll 'pop' when it plugs in, and occasionally spark. that tells you there is power, and the unit will begin charging. Don't freak out--it's perfectly normal to spark slightly (or make a pop-ing sound); that's just the capacitors in the AC adaptor getting charged up to do the dirty work....
