Instead of Vaseline (or other petroleum based lubricants) I would suggest something like "SilGlide" which is a silicone based product. A little goes a long way and it doesn't "spread" with higher temperatures as a petroleum product might. I have used it to free up the action on an ImageWriter II and an Epson Stylus Color 600. Worked wonders.
